Your videos and images

ClipStills reads only the files you select. It does not upload your videos, generated images, filenames or export manifests to an application server. Image review, scene suggestions, frame comparison and file matching also run on your device.

Video access and image previews last for the current page session. They are not cached for later visits. Images, contact sheets, frame boards and ZIP files you download remain in the location chosen by your browser until you delete them.

Requests to load the site

Your browser requests pages, scripts, fonts and other assets from the hosting provider. Choosing a sample also downloads that video from this site. These requests expose ordinary connection information, including your IP address and browser request headers, to the hosting infrastructure. Hosting providers may keep service or security logs under their own policies.

This release has no application analytics, advertising scripts, accounts or tracking cookies. It does not send your filenames, media or review scores to a statistics service.

What is saved on your device

Saved itemWhat it contains
Export preferencesSettings such as image format, quality, size, timestamp display and ZIP details.
Extraction presetsPreset names, reusable extraction and export settings, filename rules and preset dates. No source filenames, time ranges, image choices or board layouts.
Board layout presetsLayout names, grouping, columns, image width, timestamps, output format and preset dates. No project titles, source names or image choices.
Projects and local draftsSource filenames, sizes, duration, dimensions and file fingerprints; extraction settings, time ranges, positions, image timestamps and selections, scene choices, filename rules and board layout settings, including its title.

These records contain no original videos, image pixels, generated previews, full device paths, file handles or browser media URLs. Text you enter in a preset name, filename template or board title is included as written. File fingerprints are calculated locally to help verify the originals when you restore a project.

Preferences, presets and the automatic draft belong to this browser and this site address. They do not sync across browsers, devices or domains. Projects and preset backups are separate JSON files that you choose to download.

Automatic drafts and recovery

The Free workspace can save one latest valid draft locally after a short pause in your changes. Pro sample workspaces do not overwrite that draft. A previous draft is kept until you explicitly replace it or restore all its sources; restoring a subset keeps the complete saved record.

When you return, review the saved draft and select the original videos again. ClipStills checks the files and rebuilds previews locally. Opening a project or draft for review does not immediately replace your workspace. Existing projects, drafts and presets remain readable.

Browser storage can be blocked, cleared or evicted. If saving fails or another tab changes the draft, the tool keeps the last valid saved version and asks you to review the situation. A saved-draft download contains that saved version, which may be older than the current workspace. No processing continues after the page closes.

Back up or delete your saved work

  • Use Projects & backups to review, download or delete a saved draft. Keep the original videos with your downloaded project so you can reconnect them later.
  • Manage or delete presets in their respective saved-preset panels. Preset backup imports are previewed before you choose what to keep; they do not automatically apply settings or replace a review.
  • Clearing the workspace keeps its saved draft. Deleting the draft leaves the current workspace open; later edits may create a new draft.
  • Clearing this site's browser data removes its local preferences, presets and draft. It does not delete downloaded projects, backups or images.

Before moving to another site address or browser, download the backups you need. Import them at the new address and reconnect the original videos. Automatic drafts are a convenience, not a replacement for a separate backup.

Free, Pro and payments

Free works with your own video. Pro workflows are currently available with site-provided samples only. This release has no checkout or license activation and does not collect billing details. See Free and Pro access.

Before payments are introduced, this page will explain which payment and license services receive purchase information. Paid access will still use local video processing.

Other services and changes

Browser extensions, your operating system and cloud-synced download folders are outside ClipStills's control. External documentation links and services where you choose to share an exported image have their own privacy practices.

If a future feature sends media to a server, it will identify that action before it happens and update this page. See the release notes for application changes.
